Interesting Vancouver is an unconference that I will be helping to hype and maybe even speak at, if I can get my act together. The premise is to hold a super relaxed conference where speakers are invited to speak for 20 minutes or 3 minutes on any topic they’re interested in, passionate about or super knowledgeable about.
It’ll take place on October 24th at the Vancouver Rowing Club and only cost $25. This will be one of those events that will make you proud to live in the cultural mix of Vancouver.
It’s official. I’m adopting all things Twitter. Now that I have some regular contributors to follow I’m starting to see the value of Twitter.
I’ve added Twitter Berry for the BB and Twitter Feeds which automatically feeds my blog posts to my Twitter.
Now you can follow this blog, DailyJim (my photoblog), Corporate Hipster and I Am User Generated (my academic blog) on my Twitter. Activate the mobile notification option on Twitter and you’ll get these updates as text messages.
Is this cross-platforming getting creepy?
How can your brand not be cool if you associate yourself with N.E.R.D. and Santogold? Time to dust off the old steps and support the original Chuck Taylor movement.
This is follow-up post to my Pants post the other day. That video was for Levi’s and the same director shot this for RayBans. It’s been out for a year but has blown up in the past little while. Maybe as consumers we really just do want funny random stuff instead of ads. See if you can detect the branding in this spot.
Now Public, a Vancouver tech start-up, is trying to change the way the news is written by putting the power in the hands of the people. Well who am I turn up my nose to this invitation? I’m a self professed news junkie, so why not spread what I’m reading with a larger audience? I’ve yet to write my own article, but you can see what I’ve been highlighting on my members page or on my Now Public widget to the right of my home page.
I’m grinning ear to ear today after finding this ad. It combines all my loves: soccer, basketball, art cinema and advertising. It also has a great score. Then there’s the whole element of DIY that the Wall Street Journal article elaborates on. Steve Nash enlisted the help of Lola Schnabel, daughter of Julian Schnabel, to shoot the mini-documentary.
Another example of some soft sell advertising in a longer form from Lumix cameras features two teams of camera assassins whose goal it is is to photographer the other team as many times as possible without getting photographed themselves. See who wins:
I’ve been trying to find more and more examples of super soft advertising that takes an oblique approach to the brand message they’re trying to deliver. Here’s a series of shorts made by Adidas riffing of their colours.
